Ms. Blackmon began teaching in the Physical Education Department at Columbus College in 1959. This interview explores basic biographical data with the major emphasis on her years at the college. Because of her long career spanning almost 30 years, her interview takes in a number of important developments in the college and in the P.E. department.

Ms. Mary V. Blackmon was born in Washington, Georgia in 1933. She describes her parents as old school, ... "wonderful parents, they gave me a good solid background--pay as you go, treat people right, and get an education." Ms. Blackmon's first job was teaching biology and chemistry at Cedartown High School in Polk County, beginning in 1954.
